Lab Safety & Animal Handling

The DSCB Office arranges UCSF lab safety and animal training courses for all new students. These are required before you may begin working in a lab, regardless of whether you have had this training at other institutions. Some of you may have already taken the courses within the past few years at UCSF; if so, you may not need to take them again. All of the courses except one (mouse handling) can be done online. The prerequisite to take the LARC mouse class is the online BRER (Basic Regulatory and Ethical Requirements) class. The mouse handling course will be scheduled so that you and your classmates will attend as a group in mid-September. Once this course has been scheduled, you will be notified of the time, date and location. A separate document describing the process for taking all courses will be sent to you in August.
